Two border events you should know about

Friends,

I hope this note finds you well. There are two events on the border that I want you to know about.

1. Death and Life on the Border: A Faith-Based Response - April 14-16 (optional 1 day Mexico trip that I will lead on April 13). If you are interested in migrant concerns on the border and in your area, plan to come to this event. We expect lots of people, so there will be great opportunities to learn from one another. Our time together will include interactions on all of the following topics:

Current legislation
Immigration policy reality and reform
Border Ministries
National realities and border immigration
Globalization and migration
Biblical and theological themes
Worship and pray together

If you want to learn more, go to www.synodsw.org.

2. BorderLinks and Ghost Ranch are co-sponsoring a four-day border trip that I will lead in Arizona and Sonora on October 6th through the 10th (which includes the Columbus day holiday). The focus will be on a variety of border issues including immigration, economy, border enforcement strategies, and the migrant journey. We will ground the experience in intensive Biblical study, reflection and prayer. I expect that we will spend at least one night in a homestay with families in Mexico. The cost will be around $425 per person, which includes all expenses from arrival to departure in Tucson. If you are interested, go to the Ghost Ranch website for more information and registration.

These are both great opportunities to better understand the complexities of the border region and to get more involved in work on these important issues.

Hope to see you there.

I'm off for a weekend with junior high students at Mo Ranch in the Hill Country of Texas. Wish me luck.

Rick
